“I view great cities as pestilential to the morals, the health and the liberties of man. True, they nourish some of the elegant arts; but the useful ones can thrive elsewhere; and less perfection in the others, with more health, virtue and freedom, would be my choice.” Thomas Jefferson

Where Is Christian America Today?

You want to show me “Christian” America that so many people like to crow about?

Show me a legislature that can put petty politics aside long enough to come together on issues and have the courtesy, the respect and the patience to hammer out solutions to the nation’s problems like it was done in the good old days before Conservatism became so enamored of the wealthiest 1% of the citizens and so callously unconcerned about the rest.

Show me a Congress where all the members can work together to advance agendas that are beneficial for all Americans regardless of who is sitting in the Oval Office. That would be a good step toward convincing me of the “Christianity” of American Politics– show me love, tolerance and understanding between the parties…that would be a good starting point.

Show me a Congress where everybody, Republican, Democrat and Independent alike are concerned with the healing of the oppressed and the downtrodden. Show me a Congress where compassion for suffering American Workers and the Poor and the sick and the Elderly take precedence over amassing fortunes for those who have most of the abundance and wealth already and who simply want more and more no matter who gets hurt in the process of amassing it.

Show me a Congress who is willing to touch those who are in pain with their great power, influence and wealth; a Congress who is willing to clean those who have been soiled by life and warm those whose very souls are chilled in the foul winds of adversity that are blowing over the land.

Show me a Congress where the members are willing to show their love for God and for The Country and for The Citizens and For One Another by their sacrifice, their willingness to give and their selfless service in pursuit of the True Christian Ideal of using the vast resources of America to help those who need help the most.

Show me a government that operates on love and justice for all and one that holds out a ray of hope to the hopeless expecting nothing in return or any gain for the effort.

Show me a government that is willing to renew itself and to protect and preserve the people, The Constitution and the great natural resources that America has been blessed with so abundantly.

Show me a Congress where arguments are presented based on the best possible logic and the most indisputable evidence and where those arguments, once made, are quiety voted upon in an orderly and decent manner so that the will of the People is served and personal or corporate interests are secondary to the needs of the Nation and her citizens.

Show me a governing body where respect for fellows and dignity in proceedings trumps all other considerations and where the old-fashioned virtues of Industry and Honesty once again reign over all the Marble Halls of Democracy.

Show me all this and I will then be able to see that strangely elusive entity called “Christian” America that I keep hearing about all the time.

Author: John Liming - American Liberal Times

I am an American Man, 72-years-old, and a Veteran of The U.S. Military. I have served honorably in both The United States Army (National Guard) and The United States Air Force for a total of seven years and three months active duty during what is now known as The Vietnam Era. I am a concerned citizen and refer to myself as "A Crazy Left Wing Liberal Nut Case with occasional Right Wing Conservative tendencies. I am particularly concerned and grieved about the way our beloved America seems to have become so politically divided over the past few years to the point where hardly anyone seems to be able to get along or to work together and where mutual vilification seems to be a spectator sport of some kind. I am particular fearful that we might get to the point, in our internal power struggles where we would be a One Party Nation. That, in my opinion, would be a total disaster and that is what I fear certain members of the element generally known as The "Christian" Conservative Right may have in mind.
