“[The] Bank of the United States... is one of the most deadly hostility existing, against the principles and form of our Constitution... An institution like this, penetrating by its branches every part of the Union, acting by command and in phalanx, may, in a critical moment, upset the government.” Thomas Jefferson

Government Seeks To Limit Radiation Exposure For Kids!

Mmmm....cake. And government info.

“It is hard for me to accept the fact that The Founding Fathers ever intended to dictate what The Medical Profession can and cannot do.”

That, of course, is not my real opinion, but I will bet a dollar to a doughnut that you could very easily get a  committed Conservative to say something very similar to that.

In my true opinion, I feel like The Founders would have been glad to have taken on any order of business that would contribute to the Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness for Americans up to and including intervention in medical practices where necessary in order to assure safety and effectiveness.

I think that if America is the “Christian” nation that some people claim it is, then America would not be adverse to doing things in a Christian manner and that would include making sure that The Government made plenty of provision to help the sick, feed the hungry and clothe the naked among us.  Those are Christian things and that is what a Christian Nation would be all about.

For those who argue that America could not long afford to sustain the “Entitlement” programs because of their ever growing expense I would say, “If America is a Christian Nation then God is in control.

If God is in control, then there is a never-ending source of provision for the needs of the nation because God never runs out of anything and He never withholds anything good from the faithful and true.
If America is half the Christian nation that some of the Righties claim and if there is any validity to that religion at all, God Himself will see to it that America has what She needs to carry out Her Christian duties toward Her citizens and the World at large.

When our United States Constitution was written, I doubt if any of the framers of that blessed Document were even considering telling doctors how to go about poking holes in patients skulls so that the evil humors causing the diseases could be released more easily.

But I believe they would have taken on this challenge in confronted with it and they would have done it for the good of the People and not necessarily exclusively for the gain and profit of a few.

So here I am, reading this article that says that  The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is “Taking Steps” (Whatever that is supposed to mean) to protect children from getting too much radiation whenever they receive X-Rays, CAT Scans or any similar tests.

If I were a Republican or a Conservative I think I would read that as a threat to my personal Liberties and Freedoms because I get the impression sometimes that Righties hate any form of government intervention into their affairs—never mind whether it might be good for them or not.

My view is that The Far Right and their friends hate the idea of Big Government up to the point that they need it to get something done that they want done and then Big Government isn’t all that bad anymore. When Rightie wants something done, they are more than willing to invoke all the Big Government power and influence they can find.  That, in my opinion, is where some of the transparent hypocrisy of The purveyors of Radical Conservatism lies—and, in my opinion, there is plenty enough hypocrisy to go around!

I think I can almost hear what one of those on that side of the fence might say about the proposed FDA interventions—It might go something like this:

“I mean, really now—how dare the Government stick their nose into my children’s health care?  Isn’t the well-being and the health care of my own children my responsibility as a self-sufficient and self-reliant Freedom-Loving adult?”

I think if I were a Republican, A Conservative or any kind of Right Winger at all, I think I would probably be seething with anger at the nerve of some government agency telling me how much radiation my kids can have from X-Rays or CAT Scans—wouldn’t I?

Well, folks—I am not a Conservative or a Republican or a Right Winger and I am most happy that we have a dedicated, caring and committed government agency such as The FDA who is concerned about whether or not our kids are getting too much radiation when they go for certain medical tests.

There is a point where The Government has to get into the act as it were because “We The People” have a history of watching out for each other— of “Having Each Other’s Backs” in a manner of speaking.

That, in my view, is what good government is all about—One People, together, helping each other where help is needed and when it is needed and in the quantity needed to get people over their hurdles and difficulties.  That is Union—That is solidarity—that is what being “United” is all about and that is what The United States, at Her best, has always been all about.

What bugs me more than anything is how some of the budget whackers on the side of Conservatism are so eager to take away funding from such vitally important government agencies as The FDA to the point sometimes, when it may become questionable whether or not these agencies can actually perform their needed tasks at the levels required for adequacy.

My true opinion is “Heck yes we need studies on the amount of radiation that is safe for our kids—or for anybody for that matter—and then we definitely need regulation and laws with the teeth to back that research up so that the safety of people is more assured—that is what is needed in my opinion…not more cutting of the funding for the responsible agencies.

I fully support a fully funded FDA so that we can be assured that our food is safe, our medicine is safe, our water is safe and everything that we put into our bodies or that we have anyone else do to us in the name of health or healing is as safe and science and common sense can make it.

There is a limit to the Conservative ideals of self-reliance and self-sufficiency.  There are common sense limits that tell me one cannot take the cure of major illnesses back to the times of “sulfur and molasses in a tablespoon”  home remedies.

But, it looks more and more to me that there are some misguided souls in government and elsewhere who may be wanting to do exactly that.

You know what I say?  I say leave the funding for FDA and all our government agencies alone and give them what they need to do their jobs.  If you want to cut back on something, how about a few cutbacks in those tax breaks for the wealthiest 1% that you keep hearing so much about?

Just keep in mind—God will provide!

I am an American Man, 72-years-old, and a Veteran of The U.S. Military. I have served honorably in both The United States Army (National Guard) and The United States Air Force for a total of seven years and three months active duty during what is now known as The Vietnam Era. I am a concerned citizen and refer to myself as "A Crazy Left Wing Liberal Nut Case with occasional Right Wing Conservative tendencies. I am particularly concerned and grieved about the way our beloved America seems to have become so politically divided over the past few years to the point where hardly anyone seems to be able to get along or to work together and where mutual vilification seems to be a spectator sport of some kind. I am particular fearful that we might get to the point, in our internal power struggles where we would be a One Party Nation. That, in my opinion, would be a total disaster and that is what I fear certain members of the element generally known as The "Christian" Conservative Right may have in mind.

  • This is the most incoherent piece of stupidity I have ever had the privilege to read. For that I thank you, it is always helpful to know just how low human intelligence can sink.

To my knowledge “Rightie” as you like to refer to Republicans and Conservatives has never advocated “No government”, just smaller government. The current government bureaucracy is a leviathan, with duplication, conflicting regulations, and a budget that is by any measure unsustainable.

Taking the issue of regulating exposure to x-rays in children and suggesting that because the right sees it as a good thing they are being hypocritical is nonsense and an act of desperation on your part. But it is typical of the left, when the right suggest that Social Security needs to be revised to ensure its survival, the left left accuses the right of putting retiree’s on the streets. When the right suggests that the Catholic church should not be forced to underwrite birth control something totally against their beliefs, the left suggests they are undertaking a “war on women”.

In a previous comment I suggested that you were akin to the “Amazing Kreskin” with your ability to read minds, I see you are using that talent once again by telling us how the founding fathers would think today…..your powers are truly amazing Great One. Its a good thing you are here to speak for the Founding Fathers, otherwise they might have been forced to put their thoughts on paper, you know create a document as a basis and foundation for this country in generations to come. Wait a minute, haven’t I just described the Constitution?

As for your suggesting that God will take care of things, I would suggest that he has probably got enough on his plate and expects his creations to take a certain amount of personal responsibility for the running of their lives. As well what makes you think that even the Almighty could straighten out the mess that government has created? Oops almost forgot, you read minds.
