The Most Important Memorial Day Ever

Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, was first observed on May 30, 1868. It was first known as Decoration Day because they decorated the graves of the nation’s Civil War dead, by proclamation of General John A. Logan of the Grand Army of t…

Top Kill Fails: Time to try a common sense approach.

I never really felt as though this would work. The “heavy” mud they are pumping isn’t that heavy at those depths. If it weren’t for the gas escaping along with the oil they might have had half a chance but how is any mud or fluid going to hold back gas? As I said in previous post, they have opened Pandora’s Box. When you consider the velocity that this oil is blowing out at there is

Arlington Cemetery – 3000 words

They say one picture is worth a thousand words… enough said:

They shall grow not old

As we that are left grow old

Age shall not weary them

Nor the years condemn

At the going down of the sun.

And in the morning

We shall remember them.

Memorial Day Video Tributes

Freedom Is Not Free, By – Kelly Strong

I watched the flag pass by one day. It fluttered in the breeze. A young Marine saluted it, and then he stood at ease. I looked at him in uniform So young, so tall, so proud, He’d stand out in any crowd. I thought how many men like him Had fallen through the years. How many died on foreign soil? How many mothers’ tears? How many

A Memorial Day tribute to our fallen patriots…

I felt such an overwhelming sense of pride and humility reading this piece from a very well know website that I had to bring it to our readers. I would have simply directed it with a link had it not been for the small portion in the middle of this tribute that rubbed me the wrong way. I must say that I read this blog quite often and have found frank and open discussions

Jeremiah’s message applicable to us?

Would you consider walking away from your house, giving it back to the bank?

It seems this is a common occurance in today’s home market. With the value of homes dropping in most areas sometimes it makes little sense to continue paying a $800.000.00 mortgage when the value has dropped nearly 20% in some cases. If you are planning to stay in your home for the next ten to twenty years the market could correct and bring some value back to the home.

Facebook to change tools, Google accused of wiretapping

It seems they are attempting to shut the barn door after the horse is already out. We can only guess at what information has been accessed and sold to God knows who, and NOW they say they are going to do something about it.

Only because they got caught… Can you say: Class-action suit.

Facebook users beware, your FB page is more like an open book

As a person that is fairly new to Facebook it is un-nerving to think that information posted on the site is not as “private” as Facebook leads you too believe. Not that I put anything on there that is embarrasing or private but the basic personal information going into some huge database somewhere is not what their privacy statement states.

Iran pulling a quick one to avoid further sanctions?

This is Iran’s way of trying to look good when we all know it is just a ploy to avoid sanctions. The whole deal will be nullified if the US goes to the UN for increased sanctions.

Story by: Voice of America

Iran has submitted a letter to the International Atomic Energy Agency outlining an agreement to send its enriched uranium abroad.

The letter, delivered Monday (at 0830 UTC), outlines the plan in which

Oil Spill: 35 Days And No Relief In Sight…

When will the government take over?

It would be nice to think having the government take over would be a good thing. Experience has shown that when the government “takes over” things have a tendency to go from bad to worse. It seems to me that the smartest people in the business are already working hard at trying to fix the leak (gusher).

I do believe at first BP (British Petroleum) was more concerned with regaining control of the leak, not shutting it off. At this point though, they realize the cost involved with clean-up and the other losses they will incure far outweighs whatever profits they might have realized by regaining control. It is really turning into a catastrophic disaster that will scar the Gulf for years too come, if not forever.

The Story: BP Oil Spill Day 35: Is It Time to Push BP Aside?

Government Threatens to Take Over if BP Does Not Make Progress

By SAM CHAMPION and KATE McCARTHY
May 24, 2010 – ABCNews.com

Frustration along the Gulf Coast is mounting and the government has threatened to take over the cleanup process in the Gulf of Mexico if BP does not make progress soon as the oil spill enters its fifth week.

La. Gov. Bobby Jindal works to create sand barriers to contain oil damage. “If we find that they’re not doing what they’re supposed to be doing, we’ll push them out of the way appropriately and we’ll move forward to make sure that everything is being done to protect the people of the Gulf Coast,” Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar said Sunday.

BP acknowledged that the government is not happy with the progress in capping the underwater gusher so far, but said the government’s position “is no different from our own view.”

“We are putting everything we know how to do at this. We’ve got the best people, the best scientists with us from our own company or across the industry or from government,” BP COO Doug Suttles said on “GMA.” “I think everyone is frustrated, we’re frustrated, clearly the secretary [Salazar] is and they want us to get this done as quickly as we can.”

The impact from the spill has affected 150 miles and the oil has pushed 12 miles into the heart of Louisiana’s mashes and wet lands. Although the government has threatened to take over the cleanup process, officials have acknowledged that BP has more expertise.

Today Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Secretary Salazar will lead a Senate delegation to check on BP’s progress.

At least six million gallons of oil have been spilled, although some scientists argue it is much more than that.

BP said the scale of damage is unknown and they “will be monitoring that for many decades.”

Last week BP successfully siphoned off more than a half a million gallons of the oil using a mile-long tube, but that rate has been reduced because of the amount of gas also coming out of the well, according to BP.

“We continue to try to get the tool placed even more precisely inside this piece of pipe. We are averaging a little less than 2,000 barrels of oils of a day. Now, that is good because that is 2,000 barrels that doesn’t spill,” Suttles said.

BP had hoped to attempt a “top kill” approach to block the well head using mud and cement Sunday, but that has since been delayed until Wednesday, Suttles said.

“The challenge here is doing things in 5,000 feet of water. What looked like a fairly simple task, when you have to do those with those robotic submarines — even small things sometimes can take longer than we estimate,” Suttles said.

BP has “other options” to pursue if the top kill approach does not work. Suttles said ultimately he hopes the spill will not be “catastrophic” because “there have been oil spills in the Gulf of Mexico, there are natural seeps in the Gulf of Mexico and that environment seems to recover from those things.”

Louisiana Losing Patience! Can you blame them?

It is hard to blame Louisiana Officials for being upset. They are faced with an impending disaster.

Gov. Bobby Jindal is demanding action from BP and the government in the form of a dedicated and effective response to help them protect the inlets and marshes along their shoreline. It seems to me their pleas are falling on deft ears.

BP seems more concerned with recovering the oil they are presently losing (notice I say recovering

How many illegal immigrants can you fit in a van?

This video is old but I thought it was worth posting again.

It shows a van full of “undocumented workers” being chased by police. It crashes at an intersection in Arizona and flips over.

See if you can get a count on how many illegal immigrants get out and run. I count around 28…

Wow, looks like a fraternity prank (except for the

Photos Of The Oil Spill Disaster, 2010

The catastrophic explosion that caused an oil spill from a BP offshore drilling rig in the Gulf of Mexico reached the shoreline early Friday morning. The leak is releasing well over 5,000 barrels of oil per day (some estimates are over 50,000 barrels a day). Efforts to manage the spill with controlled burning, chemical dispersal and plugging the leak were unsuccessful. This oil spill will shortly become the worst oil spill in history, surpassing

Maryland Feeling Less Friendly To Illegal Immigrants

This story by the Washington Post describes how the anger and frustration in the “Land Of Pleasant Living” is forcing the legislature to act. Maryland has always been tolerant of immigrants but as time goes on they are seeing a need to curb the constant flow of illegal immigrants to this state. Now that other states are enforcing stricter illegal immigration laws and policies there appears to be more and more illegal immigrants making there way into the state.

By Pamela Constable and Lisa Rein, Washington Post Staff Writers
Tuesday, March 25, 2008

A record 20 bills targeting illegal immigrants have been introduced in the state legislature this session. Although none of the bills is expected to survive, their supporters are far more vocal and organized than in the past, and the movement has gained recent support in Maryland communities that include Mount Rainier, Gaithersburg and Taneytown.

Public anger against illegal immigrants, already entrenched in parts of Northern Virginia, is seeping into Maryland. With legislators facing unprecedented demands to take action, fears of a crackdown are spreading among illegal immigrants in a state that has been more tolerant of them.

Oklahoma law an effective deterrent to illegal immigration.

Welcome to Oklahoma: In May of last year, Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry (D) signed a law making it a felony to transport or harbor illegal immigrants and establishing strict enforcement and identification policies.

This letter is from a lady in Delaware. She summed it up well with her description of Oklahoma’s approach.

The principal driving factor that has created an illegal immigration problem in the United States is our metamorphosis from a free-market
