This story by the Washington Post describes how the anger and frustration in the “Land Of Pleasant Living” is forcing the legislature to act. Maryland has always been tolerant of immigrants but as time goes on they are seeing a need to curb the constant flow of illegal immigrants to this state. Now that other states are enforcing stricter illegal immigration laws and policies there appears to be more and more illegal immigrants making there way into the state.

A record 20 bills targeting illegal immigrants have been introduced in the state legislature this session. Although none of the bills is expected to survive, their supporters are far more vocal and organized than in the past, and the movement has gained recent support in Maryland communities that include Mount Rainier, Gaithersburg and Taneytown.
Public anger against illegal immigrants, already entrenched in parts of Northern Virginia, is seeping into Maryland. With legislators facing unprecedented demands to take action, fears of a crackdown are spreading among illegal immigrants in a state that has been more tolerant of them.

Vernon Briggs, a Cornell University labor economics professor stated:
“The toleration of illegal immigration undermines all of our labor; it rips at the social fabric. It’s a race to the bottom. The one who plays by the rules is penalized… a guest worker program guarantees wages will never go up, and there is no way American citizens can compete with guest workers.”
An amnesty for illegal aliens forgives their act of illegal immigration and implicitly forgives other related illegal acts such as driving and working using false documents. The result of an amnesty is that large numbers of foreigners who illegally gained entry into the United States are rewarded with legal status for their breaking the law. In January, 2004 President Bush Proposed an earned legalization program for illegal aliens. This is an amnesty under another name.

For over 200 years, the United states only granted amnesty in individual cases and had never given amnesty to large numbers of illegal aliens. Then in 1986, Congress passed the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) which gave amnesty to all illegal aliens who had evaded law enforcement for at least four years or who were working illegally in agriculture. This resulted in 2.8 million illegal aliens being admitted as legal immigrants to the United States.

Well they are already here; they are in the Congress, the Senate and on Wall Street.
Wake up America, before it is too late. We The People of this great country need to really think about where this country is headed.
I constantly ask myself what is it going to take before The People, the great silent majority, finally stand up and say enough is enough, we are not going to take it any more.
 Enough is enough and we are not going to take it any more. The People are faced with great peril, the likes of which we have never faced before, and the parties that control our congress and senate are doing nothing about it. Oh yes, they say they are, or that they will, but we all know they really won’t. And it isn’t because some of those in power don’t want to, it is simply because they can’t, they really can’t.
It is time for The People to address the situation with defiance and determination. I am not saying it is time to grab our guns, not yet! What I will say it is time for The People to be heard. Not only do we need to be heard, we need to be listened to. We need to change the way the political parties have arranged this government so they can control things.
We need representation by a third party that isn’t for big government or big business, but for The People. We need fair representation of all parties, one party for big government, one party for big business and one party for The People. I understand this is not a unique idea, and I understand that at this late date it will be almost impossible to do, but what choice do we have. We cannot stand idly by and allow this to continue any longer.
How can we possibly take the government back from those party politicians that control our government bodies and enforce party-line rule?

Legislative Extremism = Homegrown Terrorism!
Our country is held hostage because legislatures can’t get along!
Think about it. A terrorist bomb goes off and a few thousand are killed.
Our elected representatives do nothing and millions of lives are destroyed!
Today, extremism is running rampant all over the world but you needn’t look any further than our own Congress and Senate to find them.
The party leaders are to blame for playing this extreme party politics game (a game for them), accomplishing nothing while Americans suffer. This is not a partisan issue, quite the contrary. Legislative extremism exists in both parties and can primarily be found at the top of the heap. Their only interest is in the power of their party, not what is good for the people.
If only tar-and-feathering was still an acceptable practice. The only problem would be not enough feathers or tar to go around. (Perhaps we could use some of the sludge washing up on our shores in the gulf.)
These extremist employ legislative divisiveness and obstructionism that runs contrary to the intent of the Constitution, ruining what our forefathers intended. Just look at our two major political parties, they are not being run by a centralized ideology (for the people); instead are controlled by the extreme left or right wing fringe (for the party).
   
This partisan agenda of extreme party politics is pulling our country apart. It is ruining our government by creating unnecessary conflict and turmoil; creating a partisan divide that results only in a waste of taxpayers dollars. Nothing is getting done and the country is going to hell-in-a-handbasket. It needs to be addressed quickly and effectively if this nation is to survive.

At today’s hearing before a House subcommittee, Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., revealed that the blowout preventer had a leak in a crucial hydraulic system and had failed a negative pressure test just hours before the April 20 explosion. And at a hearing in Louisiana on Tuesday, the government engineer who gave oil giant BP the final approval to drill admitted that he never asked for proof that the preventer worked.
I do not find any of this hard to believe.
Halliburton’s executive Timothy Probert looked nervous as he sat in the hearing room. He constantly reiterated that his company’s cementing job was done to BP’s specifications. Transocean CEO Steven Newman, who said that drilling projects “begin and end” with the operator — in this case, BP — and that a cementing job by Halliburton might have been a factor in the accident.

As I said on a previous post, BP has no idea how to stop this. All four of the ideas they have debated over depend on luck due to the depth they are operating. The pressure combined with the flow of water offer too many variables. Perhaps they should practice on capping a volcano…
